Rovinj: Feels like Italy but is Croatia
Small charming town leaves a big impression

Rovinj/Croatia (2018) – If you look for the romantic charm only an island can produce, the enchantment of a fishermen town and an Italian look and feel, without actually being in Italy, the Istrian city of Rovinj might be just what you are looking for. Even though the Croatian jewel, located on the western coast of the Istrian peninsula, is by God no secret to the tourism industry, the little fishing port still presents itself as a sleeping beauty, totally ignoring and covering the fact, that it is the leading tourism magnet of Croatia. Rovinj has everything the heart of a spoiled vacationer would long for: a lovely set harbor town with a superb clear sea, accommodation from low-cost to exclusive, clean beaches – no sand but gravel and rocks –, a humid subtropical climate with an average of more than 10 hours daily sunshine during the month of May to September, a super maintained historic old town with a gorgeous Venetian look and feel, stores, souvenir shops, art galleries, bars and restaurant at the sea, offering an incredible view while having a drink or enjoying seafood, pasta, pizza or local specialties and last but not least a huge must-see farmers market located at the edge of the historic town. A walk through the alleys filled with stores left and right is as mandatory as from the harbor area up to the Basilica Saint Euphemia with its copy of the Venetian bell tower. The view from the highest point of the peninsula is simply breathtaking.

Since Croatia is not a member of the Schengen countries, there are no open borders between Slovenia and Croatia which makes traveling to and from Rovinj by car, bus or motorcycle a bit inconvenient to say the least. And there is another little thing which should be mentioned:
Even though Croatia joined the European Union in 2013, the main currency still is the Croatian Kuna, since the country didn't adopt the Euro. Not in all stores is it possible to pay in Euro but if it is, the exchange money is always Kunas.
